Whistler & Vancouvre
Well off I go to the big wide world. 1st Whistler. Besides being sooooo beautiful, it all started on the wrong foot and ended 1 arm unusable. Well the hostel was miles out of town - even though I was told it was about 10-15min walk - 20 min cab ride more like it. Well adjusted to that and sorted out my boarding gear at least that was easy - then up the hill I went - and down I came. Unfortunately 2005 wasn't the best of seasons for whistler - in fact one of the worst I believe. And as a beginner I didn't fair too well ice skating with a snowboard - so down I came, knees first - a VERY BIG OUCH!!!! (for those that know me well know it takes alot for me to say that). But I braved it and the next day as cautious as I could be I went up. And the next day I even went to the top of the mountain and had a great day. But then - on the Sunday - down I came again. Except this time I couldn't get back up - at first. Finally made my way down the hill and said "I think I've broken my wrist" and sure enough - 3 places.
So that was the end of Whistler - well snowboarding anyway. Had to have one last drinkies. Which went really well with painkillers.
So lucky for me I met a really great Aussie chick on the plane who lives in Nth Vancouvre with her Canadian husband and they helped me out and put me up for almost a week while I sorted the insurance and recovered enough to fly to England. So thanks heaps Karina and Kevin. You guys are totally amazing.
So spent a bit of time checking out the national parks in the local area and nursing my injuries.
