Newcastle March - September 2005

So here I am up in Newcastle Upon Tyne. I'm firstly informed by locals that this is where the original 'Bridge' is that Sydney copied. And yes there is a very small Sydney Harbour Bridge crossing the Tyne River and yes it was built before our beloved Sydney Harbour Bridge.

So Newcastle is full of history - castles, walls and bridges. All very interesting and beautiful. Castles near by include none other that Alnwick Castle or as you all probably know it as ' Harry Potter's' Castle. And yes it is a living Castle in that the Duke of Northumberland and his family still live there.

Also is Hadrian's wall which a very famous tree grows along side. And that would be the tree that Kevin Costner fights at in Robin Hood Prince of Thrives and of course that wall is Hadrians wall. For those who don't know their history (and because I want to show off) Hadrian's wall was built as a barrier between England and Scotland and the English thought it would be easier to defend with this massive wall. It used to go all accross the country. And a substantial part still exists.

So that's about Newcastles past, now they making there new history. As binge drinking capital of the world. And yes they do wear next to nothinng in the snow. And what is even worse is that daughter, mother and grandmother all go out drinking wearing about the some - close to nothing. I really didn't fit into the party scene up here. But did give it a go.
But I enjoyed my job and I earned reasonable money. Enough to save and go on a few trips.
